News : SunKus x F-Toys GT-R collection

While we are waiting for Kyosho to reveal their next SunKus collection (rumoured to be McLaren), Circle K just announced that they will release an exclusive 1/64 collection in SunKus stores from F-Toys in January 2016. In the same fashion as with the past Kyosho collections, this Super GT500 GT-R collection will have an online exclusive car as well.

Kyosho already stated that “things will change” with their SunKus collections in 2016 and this new partnership between SunKus and F-Toys might be the first step in that direction. While we are waiting for more informations (that should arrive in December), we can speculate about the future of Kyosho’s SunKus collections. Re-runs of old series? F-Toys and Kyosho series in alternance? Change to lottery system? Or not much change at all? We’ll wait and see.

Gallery : F-Toys Japanese Car Selection Vol.2

The first series of the new Japanese Car Selection from F-Toys was a nice surprise and I was looking forward the next series. It is finally available and once again the plastic models are quite nice for such a low retail price.

FTbox

Only two cars are featured this time. The 1983 Nissan Skyline 2000 Turbo RS-X and the 1990 Honda NSX, both available in 5 different colors.

The mirrors are included (not installed on the pictures) and the bonnet opens to reveal the engine.  Overall nicely done with an impressive attention to detail for the price. Note that the base of my yellow NS-X is defective.

You can purchase a complete set of 10 (sealed box) from the 829 Japan shop.

Event Report : Shizuoka Hobby Show 2015

Final coverage of the Shizuoka Hobby Show 2015.

The event was much smaller than last year. Less booths, less space and less new products. The big RC planes and helicopter section from last year have vanished, and the model kits area has been reduced by at least 60%. The diecast part was also affected with the absence of Interallied, major player in the field with their 1/43 Hi-Story and 1/64 Oversteer (as well as many military and aviation model kits). Most of the products on display were repeat from last year and only Tomytec really brought new exciting stuff.

F-Toys

After a surprisingly good Japanese Classic Car Collection Series.1, F-Toys is working on the second Series. The Skyline 2000 Turbo RSX and the Honda NSX.

Ignition Model

Many pictures from the Ignition Model booth, because it was worth it. Very tiny but packed with the most detailed 1/43 scale cars and beautiful 1/18 scale. The small Japanese company found its audience and is releasing more and more gems.

The historic maker has obviously some difficulties at the moment. Their booth was exactly the same as last year, with the same “coming soon” cars still to be released. Except the 2014 Super GT cars, nothing was new and it’s worrying.

Mark

The Japanese brand launched 2 years ago changed their mind. They initially produced high-end 1/43 but this year their lineup is mostly made of cheaper mid-range cars.

It seems like they are using existing molds from Kyosho or Ebbro, but no confirmation on this. Their 1/18 scale line however remain the same with the addition of the Lexus LFA.

Event : All Japan Model & Hobby Show – Rai’s and F-Toys

Rai’s finally decided to add some variety to their 1/64 Japanese police cars collection after many variations of the Toyota Crown 180. In 2015 we will see Honda NSX, Nissan Fairlady Z432, Nissan Slyline GT-R R34 and R32 as well as Mazda RX-8 (and a bit more Crowns).

On the same booth the other brand from Hiko7, Car-nel, was introducing a new 1/64 line based on custom cars. First batch will be composed of 4 Nissan models, all of them available in two colors. There will be the Fairlady Z & 240ZG and Skyline GT-R KPGC10 & KPGC110. The models are quite good looking.

F-Toys was displaying the upcoming Skyline GT-R R32 Japan Touring Car Championship collection. Last F-Toys collection was surprizingly good and it seems the R32 collection will be from the same overall quality. The cars still feel like cheap plastic and the paint job isn’t perfect, but it’s still great value for under 800 yen.

Review : F-Toys 1/64 Japanese Classic Car Selection Series 1

Update : Sealed case of 10 added to 829Japan Shop !

F-Toys is a toy manufacturer that sells its product with a candy. This is why they are sold as confection products and not toys. It’s the same way Kabaya sells the Majorette brand in Japan. Cars, planes, boats, figures… the selection is huge but, often, the quality isn’t very good. The previous Lamborghini collection had a lot of issues, and so I was a bit apprehensive when I opened the boxes of this new Japanese Classic Car Selection.

ft01

Thankfully, I was pleasently surprised! The overall quality is quite good. The line-up of this first series includes the 1970 Nissan Skyline GT-R (KPGC10), the 1969 Isuzu Bellett 1600 GTR (PR91) and the famous Toyota 2000GT (MF10) from 1969.

FT_JCS01_NIS_SKYGTR_SLV_02 FT_JCS01_ISU_BELGTR_BLU_01 FT_JCS01_TOY_2000GT_RED_01

These models have already been made at 1/64 scale by Konami or Kyosho, but the new F-Toys models introduce a few new features.
The first feature can be found directly on the box. F-Toys are sold in blind boxes, just like Konami and Kyosho, but this series of F-Toys boxes are numbered. This lets you know what model is inside without opening the box (the color is random though). Very helpful.

FT_JCS01__10

The cars also feature details usually missing at this scale : side mirrors (included as a separate part – assembly required) and a hood that opens to allow a peek inside at the painted engine. The mirrors need patience to be cut out carefully and glued in position, but are totally worth the effort. The engine is suprisingly well detailed and painted, using many different colors.

FT_JCS01__06 FT_JCS01__07 FT_JCS01__08 FT_JCS01__09

The only issue with the opening hoods is keeping them closed properly. You really have to push hard to lock them, but there is often a tiny gap remaining. Bummer.
Still, these new F-Toys are much better than the Konami versions of 2004. The clear lamps are really well done. There are a few paint issues and not very clean tampos, but it’s almost as cheap as a regular Tomica and the overall quality is very satisfying and close to Kyosho level.

FT_JCS01__14 FT_JCS01__15

The only real problem I found is that the cars are not screwed into the base. All the Toyota 2000GT were loose in their protective shell. I didn’t find any damage though, the shell is doing its job.
One final warning: these minicars are not diecast. They are 100% plastic. This is not a bad thing, but they are very light and it’s a bit of an odd feeling when you are used to much heavier diecast cars.

While we wait for Tomytec to produce their own versions of the 2000GT and Skyline GT-R, those F-Toys versions are the best you can find on the market at 1/64 scale. I’m definitively looking forward a second series.

News : F-Toys Japanese Classic Car Selection

In July F-Toys will release a new collection of minicars : The Japanese Classic Car Selection.

The F-Toys models are sold in blind boxes and come with a candy. They are considered “confectionary products” instead of toys and sold in the candy section of stores.

The lineup of this collection consists of the Nissan Skyline GT-R, the Isuzu Bellett 1600GTR and the Toyota 2000GT.

Completely new tools, those models feature an opening hood, detailed engine, and mirors. F-Toys models are made of plastic, hopefully the quality will be worth the comparison with Konami, Kyosho and Tomitec diecast versions of those cars.
