News : All Japan Model Show 2017

All the Japanese minicar and model kit makers are showing off their newest items at the All Japan Model Show this weekend. Unfortunately for us only Tomytec brought 1/64 scale cars.

All pictures are from AmiAmi News.

The Mazda 787B is back with the 1991 LeMans #18 livery.

Big news for Civic fans with the production samples of the EK9 on display ! Beautiful stuff from Tomytec once again.

You like 1/64 trucks? Hino HH341 tractor unit, Hino Ranger KL545 and Nippon Fruehauf FPR239 wing roof trailer are coming.

And another Datsun Bluebird SSS Safari.

To finish the Tomica Limited Vintage tour, a quick look at the Nissan Gloria Y31 Gran Turismo prototype.

And that’s it. Only a handful of 1/64 cars at one of the biggest japanese model and hobby show. Aoshima didn’t bother to display their coming GranChan collection, F-Toys had no cars, Kyosho had many cars at every scale imaginable except for the 1/64 and Oversteer was not even there. What’s happening?

Make sure to check out the amazing reports by AmiAmi News for bigger scales cars, robots, military and everything else !

News : Tomica Star Cars Galactic Speed

TakaraTomy recently launched a new Star Wars line. The Galactic Speed series is a reboot of the Star Cars line all about racing. The cars designs are inspired by dragsters and hotrods for furious races in a galaxy far, far away.

Wave 1 : September 2017
The first release features Darth Vader and the classic Stormtroopers. The V8 model seems to be inspired by the Ford Maverick drag car.

V8-D / Darth Vader

V8-S / Stormtrooper

Wave 2 : October 2017
Two more V8 models in the second release with Poe Dameron and Kylo Ren. Despite the same body all the V8 cars have different front grill, intake and rear lights.

V8-P / Poe Dameron

V8-K / Kylo Ren

Wave 3 : November 2017
The third release will introduce two new models. The Bub200 is clearly inspired by the BMW Isetta 300 dragster while the TR5000 looks exactly like a Ford F100 hotrod.

Bub200 Y / Yoda

TR5000 C / Chewbacca

The Chewbacca car is carrying a dismantled C3PO just like in the Empire Strikes Back !

All cars appear to be part of a team. We have the Galactic Empire (Darth Vader and Stormtrooper), the Resistance (Poe Dameron), the First Order (Kylo Ren) and the Rebel Alliance (Chewbacca and Yoda). It is funny and sad at the same time that the Rebel Alliance is mispelled Revel Alliance. Hopefully TakaraTomy catches this and fix it before the production but to be honest it’s surprising such a typo made it all the way to promotional material without anyone noticing (especially on the Disney side who thoroughly reviews everything before giving any approval).

This Galactic Speed line is a surprising and fresh take on the Star Wars licence by TakaraTomy, and will probably prove very popular in Japan with this ‘exotic car’ yet recognizable look.
More models and characters will follow for Christmas and all 2018.

Review : Tarmac Works 1/64 Honda Civic Type R (FK2)

Tarmac Works just released more Civic Type R FK2, time to take a closer look at a few of them.

Even though the FK2 was produced for only 2 years it gained many fans all around the world. The look of the car was a key to its success and Tarmac Works managed to capture its aggressive stance for their 1/64 scale model.

Honda Civic Type R FK2 – Milano Red (purchase on tarmacworks.com)

Honda Civic Type R FK2 – Brilliant Sporty Blue Metallic (purchase on tarmacworks.com)

Honda Civic Type R FK2 – WTCC Touring Car Livery (purchase on tarmacworks.com)

Honda Civic Type R FK2 – Polished Metal Grey Metallic (Malaysia Exclusive)

Once again another gem by Tarmac Works. It seems like they can take the 1/43 scale level of detail to the 1/64 scale. The interior is so detailed that even the rear-view mirror is there ! The wheels are accurate and sharp, definitely one of Tarmac’s strong suit. Can’t wait to see their 1/64 wheels line.

The WTCC version is inspired by the Castrol Honda official team car, and the livery is flawless. The wheels are true to the real car but the body is a stock FK2 with minor modifications like the rear bumper reaching lower and the absence of licence plates. Too bad the model doesn’t sport a proper racing wing to look meaner.

The Polished Metal Grey version will be sold exclusively in Malaysia and limited to 1248 pieces. Tarmac has a few on sale on their website so make sure to act fast if you are not in Malaysia ! This color suits the FK2 perfectly.

Beautiful line up ! Easy to take nice pictures when the models are close to perfection, no matter the angle they always look good !

If you like the Civic Type R FK2 chances are that you already own one (or more!) of those miniatures. If not you can jump in and certainly won’t be disappointed !
